The Goal

The homeowner had converted their garage to an ADU and lost their storage space. In their review, they explained that turning a small backyard porch into a closet seemed like an elegant solution.

The goal was to enclose the porch so it works as storage while still looking like it belongs to the house.

02

Before and After

The porch was open on the front and side, with a concrete floor and a roof cover over it.

It is now closed in with a pair of white double doors. The walls are finished in stucco that matches the house, and a two step platform sits at the entry.

We have been hiring Juda for years for all kinds of projects large and small. Juda is always responsive, kind, and professional.

Recently we hired him to enclose a small porch we had in our backyard. We converted our garage to an ADU and lost our storage space, and thought turning this porch into a closet would be an elegant solution to our issue. It looks like a seamless part of the house!

Once again Juda and his team did a fantastic job. Everything was clean, well organized, and done in a timely manner. I wouldn't go anywhere else for construction help.

Questions About This Project

  • Often, yes. A covered porch can be closed in with new walls, doors and exterior finishes to create a storage closet or small utility room. Whether it works depends on the size of the porch, the structure and roof above it, and your local rules. We look at it during your free consultation.

  • Matching the existing house is a big part of the design, including the exterior finish, color, trim and roof line. In this project, the homeowner said the finished enclosure looks like a seamless part of the house.

  • A garage conversion removes the storage the garage provided, so it helps to plan replacement storage at the same time. Options include enclosing a porch, as in this project, or adding a storage structure elsewhere on the property. We can plan it together with your ADU or garage conversion.

  • The price depends on the size of the space, the doors, the exterior finish, the roof and any electrical work. Call us for a free consultation and a written estimate for your home.

  • It can be required. Enclosing a porch changes how a structure is built and used, and rules vary by city. Juda Builders offers design, plans and permit preparation, so ask us about your address.

  • Photos of the porch or space from several angles, the approximate size, what you plan to store, and a photo of the house exterior so we can match the finish. Call (747) 203-9495 or use the form on this page.
